Carbon Copy (2019)
Video Work, 02:30. Calico fabric, aluminium wire, flame.

This video work merges states of absence and presence, questioning the authenticity of 'the original' through a process of erasure. The ephemeral process of burning calico leaves its own markings on the fabric, everting the act of replication as a denial of 'the copy'. The image moves from a sublime ethereality to a dense physical 'remainder'. Both the physical and the ethereal fabric occupy the same space: one a floating memory as the process of transformation unfolds, the other a dense remainder, the result of process upon the original.

This work was the recipient of the People's Choice Award at the Visual Arts in the Valley Exhibition in October 2020.
